“A Cowboi Stole My WD40”

Oil and imitation silver leaf on wood, 100cm x 60cm. 2020.

“Hormones and ADHD meds flows intracardially, Peppa is my right-hand man, the iconographic hands of God are femmicured; creating a space between lived reality and distant fantasy that is camp, kitch and seemingly nonsensical. Give me fembots, witches, cowbois and genderless aliens, the fake, the artifice and selves constructions - that hold more truth and life than biological essentialism could EVER 💅. For me, speculative fiction is a tool to understand or visually articulate queer identities and experiences supersedes that of verbal language and non-fiction. Self-mythologization in construction of alternative representations is a means of articulating queer identities within overarching cultural narratives which fail to reflect us. The piece is also influenced by cyborg feminism and ecological theories on the inseparability of nature, technology and culture. That all beings are interdependent, and our identities are constantly shaped and intertwined by and with our surroundings. We are already forms of cyborgs since our cells are outnumbered by non-human components. We are ruled by a primitive artificial intelligence: industrial capitalism. I’m interested in questioning our relationships with technologies carrying and reproducing cultural, scientific and theoretical narratives that surround us. Futurism is a helpful practice in which speculation and fabulation are necessary and often inseparable. Speaking to our present moment by creating propositions from elsewhere.”
